The original Aqua was the best of its time—far superior to the vintage WE 274B in sonic performance, compatible with a wider range of equipment, and without the limitation of WE’s 4μF maximum first capacitor requirement. It was a great success in the marketplace.

During the pandemic, Sophia Electric pushed the performance boundaries of the 274B tube and introduced the Pro Max version, the 'Aqua 274B II.' It delivered the ultimate sonic performance ever achieved in a 274B rectifier tube. However, we encountered compatibility issues with a few DACs and amplifiers on the market, which resulted in premature failure.

In response, we returned to the drawing board and developed a design that blended elements of the original version with the Mark II. The result is the Mark III, which offers nearly identical sonic performance to the Mark II while being virtually foolproof for a wide range of applications.

For those who love the Mark II, additional units remain available while supplies last. For those concerned about compatibility, the Mark III is the ideal rectifier tube solution.

We highly recommend choosing the Aqua III over the Aqua II for 300B amplifiers, Decware amplifiers, and Lampizator DACs to ensure greater longevity.
